pc running too slow

my pc has been running too slow of late.i have lots of songs and softwares downloaded on my pc.i have all the latest updates 4 winxp and antivirus/antispyware softwars. so i DONT WANT TO FORMAT/REINSTALL XP.what else can i try to make it as fast as it used 2 b.

1st thing is Defrag ur Hard Drive... it will take long if u r on FAT32 but do it... its worth of time....

then try 3rd party softwares like System Mechanic Pro....

mate as the day goes by... we see others system... too faster than ours... u think that our system is running slow... but thats not the case... as it is running slow compair to the fast systems that we r looking at.... keep this thing also in ur mind....

dude use Dr. Salmans window power tools

1)use 3rd party softwares
2)defrag ur hard drive
3)use reg cleaner
4)unistall unwanted programs
5)disable windows error reporting
6) increase ur virtual memeory
7)set the system memory use value to "system cache"
8)increase ur ram
9)if possible make ram drive
10)run scandisk

first, remove junk files. clean registry, remove invalid shortcuts, etc. for this use ace utilities or tune-up utilities or system mechanic.

then defragment your registry using any one of the last two mentioned above.

check up your start-ups. and remove those u dont require. why have them starting up unneccessarily, if u dont require them. u could control them thru the winxp/sp2 utility 'startup control panel' or winpatrol.

defragment your boot-files using bootvis. optimize your cache using cacheman. else use "driverheaven's tunexp".

disable services u dont need.

scan your pc for virus/spyware.

tweak ur xp for squeezing out maxm performance. tune-up utilities has some good tweaks.

use scandisk/checkdisk utility.

lastly defragment your disks.

Since u've got tons of data stored, wudnt be a bad idea to scan for viruses and trojans as it slows down the PC , also later it doesnt open up any progy with all kinds of errors and then u have to format.

i said i had the latest virus and spyware definitions. i have checked them and removed 4spywares recently.but didnt get any results.one thing that could be the reason is that trend micro`s default action on detectin a virus was deny access.so lots of viruses are stored on my hdd but i cant delete them because i cant even see them after it has denied access.what can i do about them?also i have checked the startups by "msconfig" utility. only the antivirus is on startup and some required drivers.no additional softwares like messengers etc.

Use Game XP, I think it will considerably increase your Windows Performance. Its there in June DvD of DIGIT. You may also use System Mechanic Pro for removing Junk files,defragmenting,duplicate files,registry cleaning, recovering data etc. Its a good all-in-one software. Set your Windows XP theme to Classic. Right click on My Computer,properties,Advanced,in Performance-Settings n set it to "Select for the best performance".

-The above things will surely increase your performance.

Download softwares like Avast, Antivir, Ewido, KAV update the defintions and scan ur system. They remove most of the known threats..

BTW do a hijack and post the log here .....

man the forum link just deals with the start-up issues.
what`s really buggin me is the programs dont start 4 like 2 mins after i`ve clicked on them.i mainly use firefox and ragnarok.i connect to the net and start these and they do not appear for abt 3 mins.

what do i do bout this?
the last hope is reg cleanin.will do that too as ace utilities is downloaded

u mean get another antivirus to scan for the files that that pc-cillin has blocked?
btw a new development in the case, i noticed that the opening of ragnarok and mozilla,internet explorer was just slowing down after the internet was connected.and as soon as i disconnect it, the programs just pop up.
so i checked the task manager and found an unknown process when the net was connected"GIANT antispyware updater.exe"
I dont have any GIANT antispyware installed on my pc.i only have microsoft and spyware doctor installed.and only microsoft is running at startups.spyware doc only runs when i execute it. so what is this giant antispyware updater?
