i am using a seagate sata hdd . see my config below. there is no special process for installing win xp on a sata drive... it works fine the usual way. win xp setup is very easy and just use the bootable cd and follow the onscreen instructions. u will get formatting and partitioning options in the setup itself. good luk !!
Yea it went smooth and I am really very happy with my new Athlon 64 3000+ and MSI RS 480 mobo.
I installed the third party raid driver (silicon image blah blah written on mobo diskette) during installation by pressing the F6.
It really takes a lot of time for RAID bios screen to come (Press F4 to start RAID utility screen) and there after it boot fast. is there any way to reduce initial boot up time.
there is usually an option in the bios to fasten up the boot time... but that`s usually always enabled by default(atleast in the asus mobos)..
plu you can boot faster if you disable the Silicon raid controller.. but i guess you already using it. so won`t be possible.
btw you only got one hard disk ?? if so you dont need raid..

Actually I dont know much about this RAID etc. In my bios i set SATA controller to 'raid channel' disabling default IDE channel and since my hard disk is one I dont need RAID and in device manager RAID controller is showing error.
1. so shall I remove RAID controller in device manager (it shows no driver is installed). ?
2. should I set SATA controller to IDE instead of RAID?
