Default Machine moving at snail speed.

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ CPU,with 256 DDR RAM,a 20 GB HDD,a cdrom & a DVD ROM drive.Recently,I installed Suse Linux & also uninstalled it , but created some new partitions by mistake. Now the problem is that, all programmes are running unusually slow, viz when I click on I.E it takes around one minute to open while previously it opened immediately.I have two fans and both are working properly as it seems from the outside of the cabinet.
What could be the problem? Is the processor getting too hot or is there some virus infection? I have Norton 2003.Please help at the earliest. Where do I find a software to monitor the CPU's temperature?

Have u deleted th partitions that u created by mistake ? If so, then th delay may be due to th fact that Windows is searching for th deleted partitions in th background. Please explain in detail, exactly what u hv done.
