Sony Electronics has expanded its lineup of DVD burners with a pair of new drives that support 4X DVD-R Dual Layer (DL) recording.

The internal DRU-800A and external DRX-800UL models can burn up to four hours of high-quality video or up to 8.5 GB of data, music and/or images onto a single DVD-R DL disc.

The 800 series marks Sony's ninth generation of dual format DVD burners and also features 4X DVD+R DL, 16X DVD" R, 8X DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW, 48X CD-R and 24X CD-RW recording.

The DRU-800A and DRX-800UL drives come bundled with a software package from Nero for burning and authoring home movies, creating digital scrapbooks, and backing up crucial data.

Hemvardhan Shah, Product Manager for Sony, Rashi Peripherals, said, "Sony is highly acclaimed for its DVD writers in India since their introduction of First Dual DVD Writer. Well I have a sony dru800A and since it is the only dvd-r i've had, it is great. But there's this article at cdrlabs that makes me worried about my decision: http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=265
Seems like sony aint the best.

siri...i read some other reviews too frm the site.............all drives asus, benq, sony and lite on...all having 8 out of 10 points whereas samsung 7 out of 10.....nuthin is perfect man.....also the dvd writing tech is getting advance and new formats getting added.........so a feature add by 1 company becomes con for others...as it wasnt introduce b4...
so i dont think there is any prob top worry........btw the reviews r not according to indian market(where techtree scores)....
also i guess when ps3 launches the blue ray disc(27gb capacity) will become mor in picture.......and then this 8.5gb disc will also b a past thing.......
