Go for a Lite-on or a Sony DVD writers as they perform well in the long run and yes its true, DO NOT go in for SAMSUNG DVD writers or any type of SAMSUNG crives coz they giv a lot of tray problems and other Nonsense and sensless problems wich will simply to say the least make u go MAD !!!!

Cheers n e-peace....

man i was a samsung user and it sucked me and pushed me to hell.after only 2 months it used to deny my orders of eject.
then i bought sony...and it has a best rate of reliability.i have written about 1000 dvds and not a single one failed.yes one failed but coz my ups is about 4 years old and gives me a backup of about 21 seconds even after monitor is switched off...and i was writing a dvd and light chali gayee.
so never go for samsung...never go for lg if u can get a better piece of sony.
and i must confess....liteon is better then sony too....i dunno in what terms but i have read about liteon and its the king in optical drives.
so go for liteon and u know onw thing...there is no price diff between samsung sony lg and liteon.
happy buying

I just bought a sony dru 800A drive and it woks. But u might want to look at this link too. http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=265

And pioneer 109 drives are available in chennai, so it must be available in mumbai too. They all cost the same at around Rs.4000. My sony drive cost around 4.2K like a week ago.

Two of my friends decided to go the Samsung way, rather than Sony, bcos of a slight price difference. Anyway, one of the writers did'nt write, the other did'nt read. One SS works now, after a lot of exchanges, the other dude got a Sony. In my knowledge, the Samsung-Toshiba co-op in the DVD writer field has gone awry...

Liteon drives are crap! Sony also uses mostly liteon drives. Samsung used to be as good as liteon but now they are using a new chip set so if you get the very newest then you are okay other wise you basically have a DVD reader. Benq is the best for +R and LG is good for all, Pioneer is the best for -R but really slow. I am looking to get an LG since it has medicum speed and has medium reliability with all. DVD writers are the pits, no one makes a really good one that works anywhere close to CD-R reliability. I loved my liteon CD writer until I got an LG one which beat the pants off it. Liteon used to be much cheaper before but these days they all cost the same except Plextor which costs a lot more but they also customise it a lot. Sanyo/optowrite is a really bad drive but Plextor also uses the same chipset and their reliability is very good, seems it is all in the drive firmware.....
