To elaborate more on this, yes many el-cheapo white box power supplies
do have a monitor connector on the rear. However, none of the most
reputed ones like Antec, Cooler Master, Enermax, Thermaltake or Tagan
come with such a connector. Recently, I purchased an Antec TrueBlue
480W from Prime ABGB for approx 6k, and it doesn't have that connector
either.
Technically, the monitor power plug is supposed to be connected to the
UPS, and not the SMPS, because of the simple reason that no wise person
would attach a high-wattage device to the SMPS, which will affect its
performance and reliability. Particularly, a low-wattage rated SMPS will
most likely take the system down if a 17" or 19" CRT is connected to it.
Ideal solution - Get a decent SMPS and UPS, and connect no external
devices directly to the SMPS.
