u r right. the LG CDRW drives are locked at 40x.U can enable the drive to read at 52x also .but this works only on CDRs ...dunno abt CDRW ..and that too reliable brands and a (relatively) new CD.
ok here's the drill...
after u insert a CDR in the tray ,push and hold the eject button for more than 3 secs.the led of the drive lights up for 3 secs.now the max speed 52x has been enabled .but remember , once u pop out the cd or power down ur system,the speed reverts back to 40x.
in case u r wondering why such a speed lock , its becoz assuming u pop an old / damaged /worn out cd in ur drive, and it is read at speeds greater than 40x , it could damage ur drive .so its for ur own drive safety.
and believe me ,the speed difference doesnt really matter.
