Writers arent locked but it depends on the type of CD used.Good quality cd's can be written at 52X.
Try using a good qualitity Cd like Samsung,Phillips,Moser Bear etc.

Check out this tip I got from my friend. It works on Sony drives. As for the LG drive, something must be wrong with the DMA settings probably. Make sure DMA is enabled. Anyway here's the unlock trick:

To unlock it ...
---> U need to put a blank media in drive.
---> Press and hold eject button for 10 seconds (the drive led will blink 2)
---> Start Nero and burn 52x. It works. Simple isn't it ...

Well I think q3_abhi is right, It also depends on media you are using. Even if 52x is mentioned on the label of the cd which comes only for 5 - 6 bucks. It is not like "stone line" that you get whats that mention on these low quality cds. Use genuine moser baer 52x media and try again.

@medigit
u r right. the LG CDRW drives are locked at 40x.U can enable the drive to read at 52x also .but this works only on CDRs ...dunno abt CDRW ..and that too reliable brands and a (relatively) new CD.

ok here's the drill...
after u insert a CDR in the tray ,push and hold the eject button for more than 3 secs.the led of the drive lights up for 3 secs.now the max speed 52x has been enabled .but remember , once u pop out the cd or power down ur system,the speed reverts back to 40x.

in case u r wondering why such a speed lock , its becoz assuming u pop an old / damaged /worn out cd in ur drive, and it is read at speeds greater than 40x , it could damage ur drive .so its for ur own drive safety.
and believe me ,the speed difference doesnt really matter.
