well bud though both have there Pros n cons..but a DVD writer makes more sence..as a single Duel layer DVD stores 8.7GB ...so guess my vote goes to DVD writer...

well my vote goes to hdd drive coz u dont have to buy addiditional dvds to write again and again for the backup
aslo rewritable dvds are slow and costly

since u wiil create backup regulary then hdd will be good

if not then go for the dvd writer

For pure back-up purposes, my vote goes for DVD writer. If the back-up will be transient, ie for short duration only then use DVD-RW.

For portability of huge amounts of data like video from a mini-dv etc, use external HDDs @ 13GB per hour of mini-dv recording.

DVD Writer...

I too vote for that coz its a better solution for backup...

You can take 8 gig of data on dual layer dvd what more you need..

even 4 gig dvd is enough for me...DVD writer costs around 4350 (Sony) DVD RW should cost around 85 (Moser Baer) and DVD R should cost around 48 (Moser Baer)

Regards
Deep

i too vote for the dvd writer whether an internal or external. and dvd media rates are bound to go down in some time. i am just desparate to get hold of some dual layer blank dvd's ... not yet available but there is a disadvantage with dvd writers , the writing process is painfully slow (as the media available right now supports max 4x speed )

I'm 4 DVD-Writer.
On HDD The Backup space will run out 4 sure someday then u may hv to delete some DATAs.
But with DVD-Writer u can burn 8.5 GB Data per DVD ,10 DVDs=85 GB cost<<<HDD.
