Default INSTALLING 2 HDD's

Please help me installing two HDD's.
I have a new Samsung 40GB HDD installed on my system. It requires only one jumper to be set to work as a master.
I also have a old Seagte 20GB HDD which I wanted to add to my system as a primary slave.

So I did the connections with one jumper on the master and no jumpers on the slave as required by the manufacturers.
My BIOS did recognise both HDDS. On the master there is XP and 2000; and on the slave 98.
Now when I put on my comp it allowed me to boot from my master drive. But as XP or 2000 tries loading, the sytem hangs.

What went wrong? How should I make both HDD's work?

well try to boot from ur Hdd with 98 ....also try to connect both HDD without jumpers..and see if it works....also may b the conflict betwn the boot loaders of 2 disks may cause xp/2k not to boot..so try booting w/out the 2nd HDD ..if u boot succesfully then there is conflict in the bootloaders....also u can connect HDD w/out 98..and then install 98 later....

You have not specified your Mobo.
Make sure your jumper settings are correct.
