4x, 8x agp ??????? confused

Ok can I use 8x agp cards in 4x slots....... I have heard tht inserting 8x compatable agp cards in 4x slot won't make any difference..... while inserting in 2x slot can make a big difference

You can install an 8x agp card in a 4x slot but it will work only at 4x. You won't get 8x bandwidth.

Not true. AGP 8x cards automatically scale down to the required speed. Inserting into a 4x slot will make it run faster than putting it into a 2x slot. But neither of them can match the perf. offered by an 8x slot. The theoretical bandwidth becomes limited due to various factors.
