Default STSTEM WONT ACTUALLY SHUT DOWN (I AINT NO NOOB)

well i got win 98se and win xp pro on my old, lean system. the thing is that the system doesn't shut down when i try to make it so. the processor fan
keeps moving, hdd LED is on and the sound from the hdd is as if it's getting used . well it's driving me nuts ever since i came back home this summer.
my lil sis must've messed something up !!.

any bright ideas? i tried messing around with advanced power mgmt and all that, tried the bios, reset it once, even flashed it. everything with the software. now what could be the prob??

hey,
do u have anything of symantec installed? I had the same problem once and I uninstalled Norton. Everythin worked fine after that.

I now use AVG 7.0 free edition...it doesnt eat up resources like norton and has given me no problems.

check it out.

Reinstallation is recommended but you could try this first:
Creating a shutdown icon on the desktop and using it to shutdown the PC:

Right click on the desktop
Click [New] [Shortcut] to open the Create Shortcut Wizard
Type [shutdown -s -t 00] without the brackets.
Click [Next] and type a descriptive name of your choosing for the shortcut
Click [Finish]

If that doesn't work, time to reinstall!
