Please Help (ram) Problem

I have upgraded my ram from 512 mb to 1 gb i added 1 gb in another slot, but it is recognising only 1 gb ram and not the 512 mb ram but both the ram slots are working i dont know wats the problem please help

and which motherboard do you have ?? please provide some details ...

u can find ram freq in bios/installing some soft lk tuneup utilities,sisoft sandra.
1) find out ram freq
2)find out both of rams hv same freq
3) MB documentation
4) excng slots of rams

its quite possible that the mobo is old and bios may not support memory more than 1GB. It may have 2 slots , both working but depends if the manufacturer catered for the future at the time of production. Find out this if it supports memory > 1 GB and if possible find a bios update.
