Default HELP- 16 BIT MSDOS SUBSYSTEM ;THE PROGRAM CAN'T RUN

I HAVE A P-4 SYSTEM WITH 128MB RAM AND WIN-98 SE, WIN 2000 AND WIN XP ON THREE PARTITIONS ON A 40GB HD.FROM SOMETIME WHENEVER I TRY TO RUN ANY DOS PROGRAM OR SOME OTHER PROGRAMS IN WIN 2000 I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE WHICH IS SOMETHING LIKE THIS " 16 BIT MSDOS SUBSYSTEM ,THE PROGRAM CAN'T RUN".I TRIED CHANGING MY SCREEN RESOLUTION FROM 32 BIT TO 16 BIT BUT IT DIDN'T WORK.THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHILE INSTALLING SOME PROGRAMS.FROM SOMETIMES THIS PROBLEM HAS ALSO STARTED IN WIN XP.HOWEVER EVERYTHING IS FINE IN WIN 98SE.IS IT DUE TO SOME VIRUS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT?

---ANY SOLUTIONS?
