Default SMS thru Computer

Hello Guys,
Nowadays the landlines have been enabled to send and receive SMS. If I've a modem connected to a landline then how can I send/receive SMS without getting connected to the Internet. Please help.

Huh what do u mean?

i guess u are trying to say about the fixes wireless phones from TATA INDICOM AND RELIANCE

and theres no need for modems on these phones can they have inbuilt modems

and if u meant normal BSNL/MTNL telephones, i dun think you can send/recieve sms's thru them without getting connected on the internet

wht do u mean by connection the phone to a modem and not connecting to internet?

u can send sms's from a pc connected to internet to anyone's cell in india from sites such as www.smstoindia.com

plz be clear in your question next time

Nop unfortuantely that is not possible but the 2 companies MTNL AND BSNL were think of providing some services like these.
Atleast I had read in the newspapers. We would have to dictate the message as we do it right now and they would send the SMS and to receive the message we would have a voice box from where the message would be read by a computer.

There was going to be another method also of a seperate unit like the caller Id units that would allow us to type the mesage and read it like a mobile phone.

Now exactly when that is scheduled to come or have they scrapped the idea is what I do not know.

The website given by you www.smstoindia.com sends emails to the mobile phones and the mobile phone companies are getting smart they charge the subscriber to read the message.
