how to remove orphaned dll's !

In Windows, When you uninstall programs (sometimes improperly),
some dll's or the shared dlls, may be left behind. such left-behind
entries in the Windows Registry and/or such orphaned dll files,
can hog system folders space or bloat registry or cause other problems.

the following 2 utilities can help !

"Archive dll" helps scan system directory for orphaned dll's.
it identifies dll's with ZERO hits. these can be archived
or removed later on, once u r sure.

"Dll Orphans" will search your computer for a list of files that are
not being used along with Registry Entries for files that are no longer
valid. these can be backed up and then maybe when u r sure, removed.

good to read both their 'help/read-me' files first !
better to create system restore point before trying them out !!
best to leave the microsoft entries, as-it-is !!!

Is this tips and tweaks / faq abt orphaned dll or wat ?

Please be elaborate and try to make it a tut by getting more info as you did earlier.

Example : define DLL ==> Dynamic Link Library,
funcitions of particular dll , sys files. Somethin abt win.ini or system.ini and more info,
then some stuff as to what dll are used in win 9x n win xp/2000/nt .Where to get missing dll files, How to fix dll source code manually,etc.

Try to make it bigger, the bigger the better !!

Is it a tutorial....Most of the ppl know how to use freeware for various things...post such things in freeware threads in gd section.

as the title says, its a tutorial about "how to remove orphnd dll's"; where one then presumes, that the reader knows about dll's.

bigger is not necessary better. its not very difficult (nor appropriate) to just copy-paste from sites ! so i prefered to give a short intro, with the relevent links.

It can be dangerous to remove orphan dlls. Agree with u TAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE DOING THESE STUFF

I agree with Gaurav....I once tried it using the AnalogX Dll archiver and it left many programs unworking....I prefer not to try this.....

U can use QuarterDeck to clean the orphaned dlls from the sys.

Very risky to delete dll's. I once used sytem mechanic pro 5 to do it and got into lot of problems. I have to reinstall everything.

just came across Clean System Directory 1.7. it appears to be safe and is the 9th most popular download with 868600 downloads on the pcworld website.

when it finds DLL files that have no programs calling them (orphaned dll's), it lets you take them out of the system directory and delete them...
