Because am trying for a career in Java .

Not only is Java used for developing Web Apps for the desktop, but also for mobiles and other devices. I ain't sure about .Net, though still a dominant tech.

I do not think there is anything like a programming language which has lot more opening than any other. It will vary, and in most cases, no programming language can be replaced by some other. For example, system level programming, C is must, we can't use PHP there. In some environment, we can't use .NET and so on.

PHP for web development..

Java for complex and large system with a huge architecture..

C/C++ for System level programming..

and .net.... i wonder... hell.. i never like paid programming

so my vote is with Java & PHP ...
