Lightbulb Shell Programming


I am learning shell programming and I want to run those programs in my some so can any one tell me is there any software or compiler available that run on xp to run shell program or I have to install Linux or Unix operating system.

I dont know any software or compiler available that run on xp for shell. But u can use any live cd that comes with digit.

buddy, i suggest u to use VMWARE workstation. using that u can isntall a linuz distro parallely to ur XP. and u can check execute all ur shell-scripts in terminal on the linux dat u wud run using VMWARE.

^yeah I would actually second that. VMW is very easy to use and I have used it for similar purposes with gr8 success.

VMWARE is very easy to configure and i recommend or rather insist you to use it if u are new to Linux or shell scripting.

Using Cygwin to get a UNIX shell is far better a solution than virtually running an entire OS.

I'm no linux geek, but for practising for my OS lab exams, I used free Sun VirtualBox, together with a free Knoppix live CD.
