Should I Buy- Seagate New Series 500GB Hdd (Series No.500D___) Forget Next Characters

I am from India - Punjab - Bathinda (151001). Today in a Local Computer Hardware shop, I saw a New Series of Seagate 500 GB Hdd. The 1st Four characters of this New Series hdd is 500D_____ & I forget the remaining 3 or 4 characters, these may be M002. The Firmware version may be 4cjb. The Mfg. Month & Year is 07.2011 & Made in China. Price is Rs.1975/-.

Please tell that: -

1) Whether, this New Series is Barracuda ?
2) Whether the hdd of this New Series is Fine to purchase?, I mean Whether, any malfunction is reported ?.

Better option is to go with popular series, barracuda. As new series might be good, but as long as the popular series performs with ease, there is absolutely no need of going for new series.

^^ may be I'm a n00b as my siggy suggests, but I didn't heard anything about seagate's new series before this thread, and also saw nothing about any '500D series there.

Yes, It is strange, even I didnt See this New Series hdd APART From the Local computer hardware shop. It is even more strange that at Seagate web site, the new series hdd is not listed.
