Build a PC (~30k)
1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: I'm planning to use this PC as a home server. It will run day and night. Also, i'm planning to use it mainly for programming (will run VMs and do heavy database scripting)
2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes, ofcourse
3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 30k
4. Planning to overclock?
A: Maybe
5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Ubuntu (Linux)
6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: 1 TB
7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: I want atmost 20 inches screen with highest possible resolution
8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 5
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: Assembler
10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: Within a week or two
11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: Yes
12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: N.A.
13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: New Delhi, will buy most probably from wazirpur market (delhi)
I am confused between AMD and intel. Never used an AMD before. But it offers 6 cores. Is 6 core (with low clock rate) better than 4 core (with high clock rate) ? Also intel provides hyperthreading, is it equivalent to having extra real cores ?

Re: Build a PC (~30k)
Thanks a lot guys for the suggestions.
Just wondering whether AMD Phenom II x6 1055t (2.8GHz) better than a 4 core >3.0GHz CPU ?
And i think i would at least require a 4 gigs RAM.
Also can you suggest any low price VFM Nvidia card ? (<5k)

Re: Build a PC (~30k)
Thank you so much

I am planning to get 1055t only, so i think config suggested by @Razor is the best bet for me. But i am confused for the graphics card, is GT 440 worth the price ?
Note : I am not into gaming so i don't need a high performance card

Re: Build a PC (~30k)
1055T is a dead end. Go for the Sandy Bridge instead of AM3 cpus. Here is my 2 cents :
Intel i5 2500 - Rs 10300
MSI H61M-e23 [B3 Revision] - Rs 3600
Corsair Value 4GB DDR3 - Rs 2100
Corsair CX 400W PSu - Rs 2500
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD Sats 3Gb/s - Rs 2700
Zebronics Bijli - Rs 1200
BenQ G2220HD - Rs 7300
TVSE Champ Keyboard - Rs 250
Logitech Mouse M115 - Rs 450
Logitech Speakers - Rs 500
Total 30900
Also if you go for the K version of the cpu you will get better graphics equivalent to 5450 graphics. It will cost you another 700-800 bucks more.

Re: Build a PC (~30k)
I know that there will be no options for upgrade on AM3 mobo but i need a VFM CPU+mobo, so i think AM3 mobo + 1055t will be best? (Most probably, i'll be using this PC for not more than 2 years
) Also AM3+ motherboards are costly and there is no BD CPU out there yet...
Btw, thanks for your advice

Re: Build a PC (~30k)
@ssengupta
His 1055T is not a dead end.All Gigabyte Motherboards recently had a Bios update to support AM3+ and an AM3+ Cpu will fit in his Motherboard perfectly.

Re: Build a PC (~30k)
The mentioned Gibabyte board is an AM3 board, not an AM3+ one. But with a BIOS update it will support upcoming AM3+ processors. But even Biased towards AMD, I would recommend you to go with a new sandy bridge processor.
