Default Installtion of Banshee

I tried to install Banshee and visited this page for info: https://edge.launchpad.net/~banshee-team/+archive I did as recommended until the last step here
Quote:
1. Open Software Sources (System->Administration->Software Sources)
2. Navigate to the "Third Party Sources" tab.
3. Click "Add"
4. Enter the APT line below that corresponds to your Ubuntu version that starts with "deb".
5. Click "Add Source"
6. Click "Close"
After this I got a dialog box saying something like... it is out of date....and update it...instead of the expected following
7. It will prompt you to reload your software cache. Click "Reload".
8. Now install the package "banshee-1" from Synaptic, or using the command below:
sudo apt-get install banshee-1

I did not get to click on Reload. Nothing happened thereafter. I went to synaptic anyway, located Banshee (not Banshee 1) and it got installed. When I looked at the about, its version was 0.8 and not 1.2.1 that I expected to install. What went wrong?

By the way the apt line was
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/banshee-team/ubuntu intrepid main

Clicking reload will refresh the package list from the repositories.

Uninstall the banshee you installed , do a reload/refresh in Synaptic and then look for banshee , you should find an updated version.

Please help me

In the synaptic package manager I found an entry for Banshee after reloading it, it reads installed version as 0.13.2+dfsg-9 and the latest version as 0.13.2+dfsg-9. The version in the "help > about" is given as 0.13.2. I am all confused, which is this version? Is it very old? How do I update it?

I checked website https://edge.launchpad.net/~banshee-team/+archive and I found these versions and more.
banshee - 0.13.2+dfsg-9~gutsy1 (that is the one I have, published: 2008-04-13)
banshee-1 - 1.2.1-3~hardy2 (published: 2008-09-16). I believe this is latest, is it necessary to go for banshee-1 - 1.2.1-3~hardy2, any difference? If yes, how can I switch to this version?

What is the procedure for installing and uninstalling applications in Ubuntu (gnome)?

Digit CD has given several applications on linux. How can they be installed?
