How to install ubuntu in command prompt ?

I have ubuntu dvd and its giving problem when installing in graphical mode . I know there is a command prompt method but dont know how to do it . Plus i have one partition in ntfs where i want to install it . . Please help me format it safely and install . .

Its called text install. It must be one of the options when you boot from the dvd.

For text based install you Need either "Alternate Install Disc" or DVD version. If there is no data on that partition then format it as ext3( you'll get this option during installation). Otherwise backup ur data and then reformat/resize the partition
