How to make carrier in open source?

I m doing b.tech in CSE in PUNJAB. I want to make my career in open source(linux) world. Suggest me what should i do? What programming languages should i know? Any site that gives me information about this? Suggest md some good books that i must read. Give the links of these books if they are available online...

There's a lot of ways to start up - documentation, package maintainer, evangelist, UI designer, bug reports and more. First step is to start using FOSS then when you're familiar with it and the ways of working, you can get in touch with the community like - IRC Channels, Mailing Lists, LUG's, localisation teams, etc. As time goes you will realise what you like, where you want to contribute and then you can get in touch with devs of that specific team, who will tell you what will you need to learn to contribute. This is just a small part, you can visit ##linux-india IRC channel on irc.freenode.net people can tell you a lot more there.
