Default OpenOffice doesn't open

I get the following error when I try to open OpenOffice Calc/Writer/Presentation on Ubuntu 8.04.
"The application cannot be started.The user interface language cannot be determined. "

Please guide me to solve that problem. I have reinstalled it, but of no avail

at the installation which language ur telling them?
that is which language ur installing in ubuntu?

asnvin, please open gnome-terminal
type oowriter and press ENTER
Ypu'll probably have the same problem, then copy paste the terminal output here. Let's see.

Problem solved. The openoffice directory in /usr/lib was not accessible to my user account. I just changed permissions and it started working
