Default Hardy upgrade query

I'm currently using Gutsy.I received the cd of Hardy Heron today. Is it possible to upgrade using the disc itself? If no,how do I perform a clean install on the same partition where Gutsy is installed(i mean,do i need to format the partition)?

  • edit xorg.conf

Quote:
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
  • and add "1024x768" as shown below
Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    Device "Intel G965"
    Monitor "LG 700E"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
        Modes "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubSection
EndSection
  • press ctrl+alt+backspace (it will simply kill the xserver)
  • relogin and then select the desired reso;ution

Looks like you need to install the correct drivers for the hardware. Post your sys. config and also the contents of the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
