Default Camcorder in SuSE

I own a Panasonic NV GS 35 camcorder, I am using SuSE and want to do the importing and editing of video files. The camcorder has a Firewire and a USB port on it, both of which can be used to get the video from it.
Now I don't know which software I should use for above purpose, also my camera is not detected when I connect it to my PC while running SuSE.

To the best of my knowledge, kino supports firewire transfers (which your camera is capable of), but do you have a firewire card? That would be the best option.
The other option is USB capture by using cinelerra but I read its not easy. Anyway you have nothing to lose. Download Cinelerra through yast after you have added the Packman repository. Make sure you have your SuSE DVD in the drive before you attempt to install.
All the best, do let us know how it went

I have a firewire card, I have done it many times in Windows XP.
But I am new to SuSE, I don't even know how to install Kino, if you could guide me through the installation process and also where could I get Kino, it would be of great help.
