fedora core 8 ..keyboard n mouse hangs

i installed fedora core 8 on my i810E machine with 256 MB SDRAM..
the installation went off fine.... but the mouse and keyboard hangs after a few mins of work

i v created a new user and do a "startx" from the command prompt

wat cud be the reason .

Is it that keyboard and mouse get stuck or just that there's a lag?
And nothing untowards in logs - Xorg.0.log, dmesg and messages?

hey i managed to find a workaround from THIS
site.

system --> services...
stop these services... and uncheck checkboxes....

"anacron", "apmd", "atd", "avahi-daemon" "bluetooth" (if you dont use), "cpuspeed", "cups", "cups-config-daemon", "mdmonitor", "nfslock", "rpcgssd", "rpcidmapd", and "sendmail".

click on save button...
i Edit RunLevel, select RunLevel 3 and do the same and save... ( default is RunLevel 5 )

i disabled the services. it seems to be running fine.
wat is this RunLevel.
after disabling the above services will i be able to install Oracle 9i on the machine? does Oracle 9i need any of the above services ?
