Default Strange Problem in Audacity and XMMS


I am using Ubuntu 7.04 and facing a strange problem in audacity and XMMS. I cant see the menu items properly. Audacity doesnt even work properly. I am posting the screenshots.
pls help

now i am using audacious, without any problems.

still doesnt work at all. the menus look as bad as ever. BTW, Audacity is not able to either record or even play. pls help.

ditch xmms.it uses obsolete gtk1.2 .it is pretty hard to fix gtk1.2 annoyances.
use beep media player or audacious(both are better!).

Audacious is slick.
As for Audacity try changing your Language to English US [System>Admin>Language Support]
The solution is similar, i just dont remember it, just change the language

Yes changing the locale from en_IN.UTF-8 to en_US.UTF-8 helped for Audacity once for me.

me too got that problem once.changing language to english(us) solved it.

i dont know, but it became all right now. i did what anarchist said but didnt work then but it's working now. thnx

i still cant record anything in audacity. pls throw some light on that too.

Mic Capture switch is turned on in volume-properties applet / alsaconfig ? Also enable Mic boost of +20db if your mic is weak.
