You better burn the iso image that is present on dvd, and use package or rpm manager in older KDE version of REH HAT 9 , or Mandrake.

I would still suggest that a package manager be used to install kde as its a massive application with numerous dependency so the chances of stalling at some stage are too high if a mannual approach is adapted.
