Default IS dIGIt Out Of ITs MInd???

hello ppl...
yesterday i got my digit march digit dvd(due to exams my mother didnt gave digit to me)..
i inserted my dvd in my drive and made up my mind to try linux.. i copied the game knoppix folder to my hdd
and started nero and burned the image file onto a cd..then rebooted my pc and booted through the cd.. everything
went fine.. soon i saw a good looking desktop..(i have tried various distros b fore but i didnt liked them)..the
desktop was clean i cud see the windows drives and cd drives on it too (windows drives are NTFS)..i checked the
software included with the disto and said to my self "well the time to move over to linux has finally arrived).
but as always god didnt liked my happiness..
when i tried to click on the preety icons for my cd drives and other
windows drives on the desktop.. nothing happened..just a window opened named file manager(i think)and asked me
to choose a program to open the file (what is this ****?)..and then i cud not find a icon on the desktop for
my computer(home)..even when i tried to click on trash icon that window popped up.. some one told me to type
"konqueror"in the window but a error saying that konqueror is not a known program popped up..i was stuck
i tried the quick browse icon in the start menu and selected home from it and clicked on open in file manager
but nothing happened....
i tried to browse the folders in the command prompt but how can we open the vid files and img files from ther?
also "copy" command didnt work...
i just want to know one thing HOW TO OPEN MY COMPUTER IN KDE.. THIS THING SUCKS....what do i do now???

now let me tell u bout my earlier linux experiences .. i had installed fedora core 1 and 2 b fore and also suse linux
from digit....but i had problems with bad sound card detection . bad screen position .. no apps to run mp3 and
dvd and heck even vcds ...i had problems accessing my win drives..

i wonder if digit even checks the disto they bundle...i hate digit.. even the dvd of the april issue was currupted
... digit says so much good bout linux but i think after so many trials of installing linux .. my pirated copy of
windows is better,. and how do i get drivers for my modem for linux from the internet if dont have a working modem.. ??

plz help me .. and next time digit plz bundle a working copy of a linux distro and give a starters guide with it..

OR I m GONNA UNSUBSCRIBE AND BURN ALL MY COPIES OF DIGIT..

Hmm... I dont see your logic... They have provided a Distro and if you cant use it then you are blaming them .. Anyways .. For a starter you should see the Help texts in the Distro provided .. also have a look at The Linux Documentation Project ...
Dont lose your calm .. Linux isnt that tough .. It just needs time ...

Hello Mr. omega,
quite a long complain you have written. What i must suggest you is to consider this distributions given out by Digit as an "Operating System" as a whole, and not as a Window$ replacement. An operating system needs some time to learn working around with it.

I've been using Ubuntu 'Warty' given out on digit DVD a couple of months back. Its my primary operating system desktop. I dont face any problems with my day to day usage. Digit gives a large flavours of distributions in its every edition. Some distros have a particular capability while it lacks some other... Its up to the readers to decide which distro they want to stick to.

Knoppix is an excellent distro and can play MP3s as well as DVDs .. Today you are cribbing about My Computer.. tomorrow you'll search for Control Panel , and say this thing does not work like windows.. i ain't gonna use it..

It seems that you are not aware of the proper unix shell commands and are trying to see if DOS commands work
video/image files can be opened by directly passing the filename as a parameter to the application name from the shell.

All the copies of distros given by digit are fully functional versions. Nobody has had any complains about non functioning of any distros as yet.

For learning how to efficiently use Knoppix as your day to day desktop, you may want to read this excellent book.

If you're using Knoppix then you should be able to click on Home icon on the panel. And be able to browse through your filesystem.
