Default How to upgrade from ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 using ubuntu dvd which came with DEC digit.!


Hi guys..

I installed 7.04 ubuntu in my laptop and then i updated all the stufff thru broadband.

then i installed many many programs like vlc,xmms, flash, picasa, and many more

then i updated all the packages again...

So i have full updated ubuntu linux with many latest updated applications..


The problem is that it is 7.04

So now i want to upgrade it to gutsy 7.10

Kindly tell me How to upgrade from ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 using ubuntu dvd which came with DEC digit.!

and also all the applications that i installed and updated in 7.04 should be alright after upgrading to 7.10.

So plz tell me safe method..

You can do the normal upgrade using the DVD (Adding it and clicking Upgrade in your Software Updates applet). But VLC, etc (Non-main-components) won't be updated via the DVD, you have to be connected online for that to happen.

i m saying that all aplications and packages like vlc are already updated...

what i m asking is that after upgrading these will remain intact or not.....

Well they are upgraded with 'feisty' labelling. In case Gutsy has different versions they'd need to be updated as well. But yes, everything will remain intact. The only thing known to temporarily fail would be the graphic drivers like nvidia and stuff.
