Post Proposal to make subsections in Opensource

Hello Guys.
I have a proposal to make our forum more clean & neat.
I think that we should make subsections in our OPEN SOURCE section for popular linux distros.
Like under OS->Fedora
|->Ubuntu
|->Opensuse

We can post our query according to the section.Like if you have anything related to fedora post it in fedora & if it's related to ubuntu & it's subordinate distros like mint post it in Ubuntu subsections & like for other popular ditros.

Think on this and post your replies.
Mods if you find this thread useless then you are free to delete it.

I dont think there is any need to do so.if this forum is a dedicated forum for Linux and Open Source it is definitely good.but as of now.Open Source section is enough

The idea is good, but one negative point (actually two) I see ..

If there are sub categories like this, people will go straight there and not in other. Like those who want Fedora will check only that section and they will not know whats going on in Ubuntu, whether thats better etc.

Another thing is, many things are common in Linux irrespective of the distro, so if someone post a problem in Ubuntu, the solution may help people who are using other distros as well.

Sorry for being negative !

The scale of the queries on the forum isn't large enough to necessitate having a new sub-section for different distros.

^^^ I agree. And the fact that most of the queries being made aren't all that distro specific anyway.

I think this will be useful coz it will make it easy for the members to find their query quickly(If already posted by other).Also now-a-days the threads in open source are increasing at a fast page coz many user using linux.So this proposal should be given a positive way. What say guys?

Hmm... Something else might be possible (I dunno if vBulletin supports it or not). admins might associate a different colour for different distributions. Or maybe the icons to the left of the thread name can be the distribution logo.

Just a thought...

Aditya

Well increase in the rate is different from absolute number of posts.
I have never said anything about the rate of posts, I am talking in absolute quantities. The quantity of posts is definitely increasing but the absolute quantity isn't high enough to warrant starting up a new section.
Yeah majority of the threads are on ubuntu but the absolute number is in no way high.
And the no. of posts for most other distros is abysmally low to create any separate sub-section for that. Just creating a sub-section for ubuntu will make this forum look biased towards ubuntu.

I don't think we need sections !

One thing we can do is that just write the distro in braces before question like.
[Ubuntu] My ...... don't work. blah..blah...blah..
