Default Help Me ! ! !


i'm using Mandrake 10.1
my pc config is AMD Athlon 2400+
512 MB DDR RAM
samsung 80 GB 7200 rpm

my system when using linux is memory hungry !

how to tweak the memory settings in mandrake

which s/w to use to tweak memory settings in KDE

im using KDE 3.2

i get the KDE 3.3 from last month digit DVD

how to install it using rpmdrake ! ! !

The biggest memory tweak is to remove kde and go in for say fluxbox or windo maker.

pradeep, the KDE 3.3 and 3.4 are much better it seems. They have tweaked a lot of components internally. The KDE 3.3 on my system is running on par with other windowmanagers now.. difference is highly visible while using the plastik theme.

I have KDE 3.3 on my gentoo system and it takes 42M of memory to run compare this with fluxbox which takes 5MB of memory. so i still feel that kde is still a heavy desktop and I only use it to impress firsttime linux guys or a windows guy to show "hum kise se cum nahi"

yeah.. but KDE is KDE... and fluxbox will always remain fluxbox.. its list comparing an elephant with an ant !!

but KDE is lighter than GNOME right?? KDE loads much faster than GNOME.

frndz still i didn't get the answer for how to install the KDE 3.3

i copied the entire folder named KDE 3.3 from digit DVD

it contains 18 files

how to install then

try this at your own risk:

In the folder where you copied all the RPMs...

rpm -Uvh --nodeps *.rpm
