Default Adobe Reader 8 for Linux Released

Version 8 of the most popular PDF reader on the planet, Adobe Reader, was released today for Linux and Solaris platforms. The new version is simply astonishing: it has a completely redesigned interface, new tools and it was created in such a way as to view PDF documents more efficiently. Let's take a quick look at the features that Adobe Reader 8 will bring to a Linux desktop near you:
  • Leverage a simplified user interface
  • Hold online meetings
  • Realize more secure document workflows
  • Save trees and time
  • Access learning resources
  • Search single or multiple PDF files
  • Complete forms online as well as offline
  • Enjoy support for 3D graphics
  • Deploy Adobe Reader using industry-standard tools
  • Support extended teams across operating systems
  • Work with 2D GPU acceleration
  • Automate digital certificate administration
  • Leverage existing security infrastructure
  • Enjoy support for security standards
  • Develop new capabilities
  • Use improved accessibility features
  • Support international standards
Requirments :
  • 32-bit Intel Pentium processor or equivalent
  • Red Hat Linux WS 5, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 10 and Ubuntu 6.10. For a list of customer-reported working systems see here
  • GNOME or KDE desktop environment
  • 512 MB of RAM (1 GB recommended)
  • Up to 125 MB of available hard-disk space
  • GTK+ (GIMP Toolkit) user interface library, version 2.6 or higher
  • Firefox 1.5 or higher; Mozilla 1.73 or higher

Adobe offers now a DEB package for your Ubuntu/Debian operating system, as well as the usual RPM (for Fedora, Mandriva or openSUSE) and universal binary tar.gz archives. Here at Softpedia, we've tested the new Adobe Reader on a Ubuntu 7.04 (Fesity Fawn) machine and it just works! It's extremely fast and very easy to install, just right click on the .deb file, select the "Open with GDebi Package Installer" options from the context menu and install it. Or if you use Kubuntu, right click on the .deb file, go to Kubuntu Package Menu -> Install Package, enter your password and wait for the installation to finish.

Download : Binary | Debian | RPM
