Post Linux Distro for 4GB Pen drive:Suggestions


Recently bought a 4GB Kingston Data traveller Pen drive.I was thinking of installing Linux on it.So which distro should be used?I will be using it for surfing the net & listening to songs.

Slax has problem such as outdated modules.

If you want to use it as your own portable OS then either go for PC Linux OS MiniMe or Dream Linux.

I m using PCLinux OS MiniMe on my External HD. It boots from the HD & takes about 2 GB of harddisk space with swap partition included. With latest packages installed Via synaptic it is a total of 2.5 GB HD space.

Or you can use Zenwalk Core & install only those packages which u require keeping the size small.

now wouldn't it be wise to suggest something that take 100-200 Mb for Pendrive......

PCLinux OS MiniMe installes in 500 MB.

Zenwalk core is 230 MB + Packages.

i would suggest not to install any operating system on pen drive.

and look saurav is using hdd not pen drive.

it is expected that some pendrive's life gets reduced by using linux distros?due to freq read/write

i dint exactly mean only linux OS... any software will also do that... which does simultaneous read and write operation alternatively.

^^ any app which does freq read and write ops is detrimental to the flash drive's life.
