Question Is fedora 7 comes pre-installed with all the codecs?


is it? does the fedora 7 provided by this month's digit come pre-installed with all the codec like mp3, mpeg, dat, etc. . ?
and whats the disk space required for full installation?

No it doesn't, you can only play .ogg, .flac and .ogm files with it. You'll have to download and install xmms, mplayer, vlc etc to play multimedia files.

I believe that codecs for free formats like theora and speex are also bundled.

offtopic :if fedora 7 does not contain all the codes so what makes the fedora 7 worth of 5 cds ?

there are many things more than multimedia which is used by linux users.
and fyi fedora/opensuse/debian are all mutli cd/dvd distros which carries everything from running a gui to complete clusters maybe.

and it aint that hard to get fedora to play all those deprived codecs due to patent and license restrictions in US and other.

they might include Codec Buddy in the next release, which will make it easier to install codecs.

^^^^ but u have to pay for the propitiatory codec u can use livina or freshrpm repo to get u mp3 playback in f7
