Default how to configur a LAN


hi
i installed ubuntu in my college pc...
i want to connect this pc to the network so that i can acess the net.

all the pcs are connected through the LAN, i have to do any thing are ubuntu automatically will detect the network?

More info is needed. There are so many ways to connect to network, some are automatic, some require lot of configuration. You will have to get some more info on how is the network managed at your college.

check with your administrator to see if he tells you the settings for windows. We can take it from there.

the pc in which i have installed the ubuntu its already in a network its now a dual boot one is XP,XP is in network & I want to make ubuntu also in a network. I gave the Ip adress of my comps and other ifo like gateway, subnet mask and dns.
