It seems like a windows related problem. hal's dll seems to be corrupt. Try to repair the install or replace with a new hal.dll file.

it is indeed a windows error.
it seems that the 5gb partition lies between c and d drive.

Open boot.ini in the C-drive and change the partition entry(for winXP) to an appropriate value.
for eg. change
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Win XP SP2" fastdetect
to
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Win XP SP2" fastdetect
