Default hplip problem

I was trying to update my system through the terminal. First I typed:

Code:
cd /bin
yum update *
all updated in /bin

Then:

Code:
cd /usr/bin
yum update *
it gave some error saying hplip can't be updated.

so i typed

Code:
yum update * --exclude=hplip --exclude=hpijs
it updated all.

Help me update hplip. Also how to update gnome icons, themes, etc?

Give the exact errors that it showed while it said hplip can't be updated. About GNOME icons and themes. If they have been installed from apt...then as and when required apt will update them as well but if you installed them yourself from random places then you'll have to take care of updates.

Isnt it that Fedora uses Yum? U can use "pirut" gui to check what is happening.it seems ur repos yet to have hplip updated driver(s),but they are indexed.
GNOME icons, themes too may be available as rpms.dont care,u can go ,customize up to ur mind with http://gnome-look.org or art.gnome.org etc
