Which Linux distribution should you try?
Fill out and submit this quick form to see which Linux distro will probably work best for you. We will be assuming that you are coming from a Microsoft Windows background. Apple Mac users should have a look at this site for your options.

Not fair. It recommends Gentoo for gurus. That's not true at all.

Listed in order of recommendation, starting from the first one:

Ubuntu - Nine faces

Mandriva - Eight faces
Vector - Seven faces
Mepis - Six faces
Gentoo - Six faces
Fedora - Five faces
Debian - Four faces
Slackware - Three faces

I already have Ubuntu installed on Parallels Desktop, but I never use it.

intermediates who can read. Just look at the vast amount of docs gentoo has. To the point, extensive, well written, mostly uptodate.

Its sad but guys lets face it "Gentoo is dying" and its sad to see such a lovely project come to such an abrupt end. So for a starter the ideal choice today is Ubuntu.

^can u explain where n why gentoo is dying?I dont see any infact child distros for gentoo too are emerging like sabayon

also for a new Linux user now the choice for first distro may be Ubuntu for GNOME lovers and PCLinux OS for Kde fans.
