Default Red Hat 8.0 Noob help


Linux noob here

i have few files to be copied from my university Lab Pc,having red hat 8.0 installed dual boot with xp,has Usb Ports & Floopy drive

wats the way for copying files to & fro either using a pen drive or a floopy

need help on this as i am noob in linux

best would be to use a pen drive ...i guess

i dont know how to mount it

Insert ur pen drive, and tell the output of command "dmesg".

thnx again mate

we have many people sharing the machines @ lab,people tend to delete the project files by mistake or remove on purpose

i have a folder inside which contains my project files

is thr any way to protect this ? such that it does not get listed in the LS command ?

Yes thats the procedure. To protect ur files u can make a new account for u, where u can save ur files!

just for transferring files to & fro to a pendrive."dmesg" will do ?

Actually RH8 is very old! U shud get newer distros which automount the pendrives just like windows.

Neways, dmesg will tell to what device, like sda,sdb etc, the pendrive points at!!
