How to configure Internet Connection in Ubuntu 7.04

I have BSNL Broadban which has dynamic IP requires username and password.
I read help document for establishing connection in Ubuntu. Then I used "sudo pppoeconf" command in terminal. But according to help after giving this commnad terminal should ask for username and then password. But it was asking for password directly. Then I have gone in System->Administration->Networking option for configuring network. In the section I have selected for Wired connection (DHCP) and used automatic assignment for IP. But still I cann't configure my network. Plz help me guys how to configure it?

do not use automatic assignment for ip. use manual. enter these settings:
ip: 192.168.1.xxx (xxx = anything after 2)
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1

and then try sudo pppoeconf
