Kubuntu unable to update resolution
I'm on Kubuntu Fiesty Fawn. Everything was working fine until I logged in now. I see that the resolution has gone from 1024x800 to 800x600 and this is shown as the max resolution. I'm not able to reset the xorg file by using sudo xorgconf (I remember doing this on OpenSuSE 10.2) I don't know why this as happened all of a sudden. I haven't done any changes. Also, the adept installer is not running as it says that there is one more instance of adept running and I need to shut it down. I was installing fonts from the repos, but since it was not responding for a long time, I just clicked the close button. Now, how do I get back my display and adept installer!!????
EDIT-Problem solved!! The adept installer problem was solved once it started resuming from the terminal The display problem was solved with the help of one of the members, that is........ *drum roll* Kalpik!! He helped me solve it on messenger

Re: Kubuntu unable to update resolution
I have a problem...
I am using Ubuntu 7.04 with Gnome desktop, Yesterday I download KDE core component package by using 'sudo aptitude install kde-core' and some additional package using Synaptic Package Manger.
Now I found that the power management (where I can set the time when the Display unit stand by after a certain period of time inactivity) option which is under Screen saver Tab is missing.
and also in start menu there is only log out button, No shut down/ Restart option available. If I need to shutdown I first log out then shut down from login screen.
So I want to know, the name of those package i,e power management & shut down / restart package ?
Please Linux guru/KDE fan help me out.

Re: Kubuntu unable to update resolution
@dissel: Why did you install the kde-core package? You need kubuntu-desktop to install KDE. Anyway, try installing ubuntu-desktop, that should take care of all the dependencies.
@zeeshan: System -> Preferences -> Power Management

You've already been suggested the best possible approach to solve your first problem but the shutdown problem cannot be solved until you use KDM (KDE Desktop Manager) as your login manager. It is the place where you enter your username and password. Ubuntu uses GDM (GNOME Desktop Manager) and KDE cannnot get those shutdown/restart options in this combination.

Re: Kubuntu unable to update resolution
You get those options when you press the logout button and get a window like this?
Are you sure you are not running KDM? And if you are sure then your distro must've applied some patches to get those options

Re: Kubuntu unable to update resolution
Wow! Then KDE must have improved integration with GDM It didn't show those options earlier. Thanks for the info!

Re: Kubuntu unable to update resolution
eddie I am using kde-3.5.5 which you should have already have used earlier. I guess you haven't tried gdm for long them. And yeah this is definitely a good thing.

Re: Kubuntu unable to update resolution
Yes I have stopped using GNOME since long time but I did read a member mentioning on Gentoo Forums regarding this problem. May be it has been fixed in all this times.

Re: Kubuntu unable to update resolution
Well regarding power scheme....
I download 3 package which I think give me the control to turn off / Stand by my monitor using adapet package manger.
kde-guidance powermanger
kpowersave
laptop mode tools.
After that I got the power option in Control Center--->Peripherals---->Monitor & Display--->Power savings
and got the plug Icon in the taskbar....where I choose the power scheme.
I just want to see how Ubuntu looks in KDE mode in my system...so I download the KDE core component...As I don't want some extra KDE junk. As I remember download was near about 55-60 MB.
Yeah....Still not solve the shut down problem....using gdm (I choose it when it prompts after installation)
