Default Which window manager / desktop environment do you use?

Unsure whether to post in the software or open source section ... but here goes ...

Most linux users here would be using X-Windows, with a suitable window manager or desktop environment (which compromises of WM + File manager, desktop background, icons, etc), so lets see what is the most popular one here ...

I use IceWM , its a light Window Manager which has the windows 95 style (taskbar at the bottom, with menu for applications) ... its a good choice for a light linux system, as it runs quite fast, and can be made to look good with themes.

I have also tried xfce , and it is one of the best looking Desktop Environment's out there, and is fairly light, but still I prefer IceWM.

Most votes will go for KDE or GNOME because they are the DEs that get installed by default. Very few people download DEs and install.

Additionally, these 2 are the most settled and well known DEs.

You can use mpg123 from the command line to hear music. And you can use aaxine to play video from command line in text mode so that you dont have to use GUI ever.

You meant GNOME 2.8 and 2.10 right?
Gnome 2.10 will be released on 9thMarch. I'm looking forwards to download its debian packages as soon as they are ported to Debian.
