sound driver

i have c-media onboard sound card
i want to install sound drive it is in tar.gz format

i know how to install software from sorce code packges
plz tell to how to install sound driver in my suse 10.2

U want to install from source
U can go to http://alsa-project.org and download the latest alsa and check ur card specific information for specific .asoundrc like file editing/scripting @ below link:

but afaik suse is one distro which got sound working gr8.
