Cool Help in configuring internet in Linux!!!!

I am a complete noob when it comes to Linux. I use a software to connect to internet (though BSNL will be coming soon...)
The problem is that this software works perfectly under windows, by the way of an installable file. But the Linux version is something that I just cannot understand….
The file is just 14Kb in .tar format. It contains two files, a readme and a file with extension “.c” . I just cannot fathom anything in these two files. The readme talks about making a makefile.
If anyone else here uses software clients to connect to the internet , it would be great if you could help me out, as to how to configure a client.
