Default Quality of MP3 music in ubuntu

I am a newbie to Linux n installed ubuntu 6.06 recently...

After installin various softwares(for playing music)...wen I finally played my MP3 music...I was highly dissapointed as it wasn't upto the mark....the sound was cracking....I tried different softwares but the result was same...

Then I tried the same in WMP10 and RealPlayer(in WinXP SP2)....n the sound was as usual....flawless....

Maybe this got to do something with drivers or so...Is there some way to rectify this problem?

I use Amarok with Xine as the Engine.
In Amarok, go to Settings > Configure Amarok > Engine tab > Select Xine from the engine list.

Yep, thats true but you need to install the amarok-xine package for that. You can have other engines as well

Just to prep yourself for any unknown/rare format i suggest you get VLC player for linux.
Go to the console and key in:
Code:
% sudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-esd
just ensure the universe mirror is enabled first.

Mp3Blaster plays neat sound with a small download size. I've been having funtime with it. You can download it from , http://mp3blaster.sourceforge.net/

Its, neat and simple. Do give it a try.
