Which Linux to use?

Hello Friends,
I want to use Linux but I am confused as there are many distros of Linux and which to use is a big question. As I heard from people that there are some for Networking some are for Desktop.
I want to know which will be good for me as I am in Computer Graphics "Maya, 3DS Max, Combustion" softwares and I also have a TataIndicom Internet Service. As far as running these Window based softwares on Linux then I have found out wineHQ which I guess run windows softwres on Linux.
So plese help me to sort out this question?

AFAIK wine still is in its alpha stages and you may face problems installing windows apps in Linux...You can try BLENDER for 3D animations...Check out this link to see the power of BLENDER...

You can also try Crossover office and Cedga for gaming..

You can try Open SuSE if you don't want to fiddle around with terminals and command line
