Thumbs up New online class teaches basic Linux for free!!

LinuxBasic.org, an online community devoted to helping people learn to install and run Linux, has announced its second free Linux class. "An Introduction to Linux Basics" aims to instill a basic understanding about Linux for beginners who want to know more about how the system works, according to the site.

Advanced Linux users will find an opportunity to dig deeper into some areas they always wanted to know more about or to fill gaps in their knowledge, according to Stefan Waidele of the LinuxBasic.org team.

The course's study guide will be "LBook," an edited version of Introduction to Linux: A Hands on Guide by Machtelt Garrels, which is distributed under the GNU GPL open-source license.

Students will need to join the group's mailing list in order to participate in the course, Stefan Waidele of the LinuxBasic.org team said.

The class, which will run for six months, opened Oct. 19 and is available to join now. Students can learn at their own pace, according to Waidele. To get started in the course, go here.

Germany-based LinuxBasics.org was founded in May of 2004. In addition to the courses, the site also provides tutorials and links to other sites that offer information needed to install and use Linux. Also available, are a "friendly" mailing list for questions that arise when people start using Linux, and an IRC chat channel.

Waidele said, "You can answer questions on the mailing list, you can write a complete tutorial or just a step-by-step documentation on how you completed a specific task using Linux."

Looks good. I have joined the course... let's see how things go. I'm a big zero as far Linux goes. Hopefully I'll have some idea after this thing.
