Default 64 bit linux does not mount.

well, i had a hard disk faliure on the disk on which Linux was installed.i had ubuntu 32 bit installed.after fixing MBR, i decided to install ubuntu 64 bit as i wanted to harness the power of my 64 bit cpu.(AMD athlon 3000+)

however, when i select start or install option in live CD, the booting stops at mount( the 2nd process)

32 bit installation runs fine, but i wanted 64 bit.
can anyone help?

easy answer is to use ubuntu-64 alternate install cd.
otherwise with current 64-bit cd u need to try to modprobe the needed 64 modules using the last option in boot prompt.try to get what it shows

@Blackleopard92, Ubuntu 6.10 Alternate CD 64-bit is available.
Download it from here
It will solve your problem & install Ubuntu 6.10 using this Alternate CD.
