Re: anjuta installation help-ubuntu 6.06
@Sagar, You must get the restricted formats first (needs Net connection).
Procedure to get the Restricted Formats in Ubuntu:
The Ubuntu 6.06 CD comes with limited software. Only the Open-source
ones. So you can't play MP3, VCD/DVD etc., To be able to play them you must update
Synaptic (Restricted Formats). Open the Terminal Window & type:
$ gksu /usr/sbin/synaptic
This opens up the Synaptic Package Manager, used to install, remove packges in Ubuntu.
Read this page about getting the 'Restricted software' packages
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats
Here is the procedure go to the menu 'Settings'->"Repositories' (Press Enter)
This will bring you the ' Software Preferences' dialog.
In the 'Installation Media' tab under 'Channels' , select all (Check the checkboxes) -
* Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Binary) Officially supported Restricted Copyright
* Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Source) Officially supported Restricted Copyright
* Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Binary) Community maintained (Universe)
* Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Source) Community maintained (Universe)
* Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Security Updates (Binary) Officially supported Restricted
* Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Security Updates (Source) Officially supported Restricted Copyright
Now click on the 'Add' button.
This brings you the 'Add Channel' dialog:
Under ' Components' select all - Officially supported, Restricted Copyright,
Community maintained (Universe), Non-free (Multiverse)
Now click on the 'Add' button & click on the 'Close' button.
Now you will see a dialog 'Information' , saying 'The repository information has
changed. You have to click on the 'Reload' button for the changes to take effect'.
Now click on 'Reload' button or from the menu 'Edit'->'Reload Package Information'
Now Synaptic Package Manager connects to the Net & downloads the Package
information.
After the download is complete you can install packages to play MP3, VCD/DVD,
DVD Authoring software, Audio editing etc.,
When Synaptic is open, under the section 'All' you'll find anjuta, right-click
& select 'Mark for Installation' & click on the 'Apply' button.
The Anjuta IDE will be installed now.
Ubuntu caches (stores) the packages that are downloaded in the
directory /var/cache/apt/archives. Just copy the packages from this
directory & burn them using Gnomebaker (CD/DVD burner). Now take
the CD & install Anjuta package in your friend's PC!!

Re: anjuta installation help-ubuntu 6.06
@Sagar,
Q) I have an AMD64 processor, should I install the i386 ISO or the amd64 one? What are the drawbacks of having an amd64 install?
Ans: AMD64 is an officially supported architecture with its respective ISO for Ubuntu and all major Ubuntu derivatives. By installing the amd64 ISO, rather than the i386 (32-bit) ISO, there will be some enhancement in performance.
The drawbacks are that Ubuntu, with APT (the package manager for Ubuntu), currently does not support BiArch, which means you likely won't be able to install and run 32bit packages on your AMD64 install. This is a problem for users who wish to use Flash, w32 codecs, and WINE (for example), as they are only available for 32-bit. There are possible methods of getting it running, but they involve creating a chroot (see DebootstrapChroot), for example.
Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Ubuntu, has mentioned that Ubuntu might join other Linux distributions in being BiArch compatible by Ubuntu 6.10 'Edgy Eft', which is the next release of Ubuntu.
You can also visit Anjuta's website : http://anjuta.org/
You can install 32-bit Ubuntu in your AMD64 PC. That will work perfectly. But you won't get the performance of a 64-bit processor!!

Re: anjuta installation help-ubuntu 6.06
What he means to say is that he has 64 bit Ubuntu installed whereas his friend who needs ajunta has 32 bit one. Now will the ajunta downloaded by him work on a 32 bit PC.
I personally don't know since I have never used a 64bit one.

Re: anjuta installation help-ubuntu 6.06
@Mehul, I understood his question very clearly. The 64-bit packages he(@Sagar) has installed
won't work in his friend's 32-bit PC!!! I'm very sure about this.
I also wanted to point out some problems in Ubuntu 64-bit, like he can't install Flash,
Java, Win32 Codecs (since they are 32-bit & the 64-bit packages are not available for them).

Re: anjuta installation help-ubuntu 6.06
There is only one way. That is, delete the Ubuntu 64-bit partition first. Have atleast
10 GB of unpartitioned space. During partitioning , choose the option Use the largest
continuous free space (2nd option). Ubuntu will automatically allocate the partitions for you
or you can manually allocate(3rd option) 8 GB for root('/') & 1.5 GB for swap
